Design participation with consequences
Participation becomes theatre when the important choices are already closed. People can feel the difference between being heard and being useful.
Name what is still live
Be explicit about the decision, the constraints, and how different forms of evidence will influence it. Clarity creates more trust than an open invitation with hidden boundaries.
Close the loop visibly
Show what changed, what did not, and why. The quality of the return matters as much as the quality of the invitation.
